bbci player

March 18, 2008

God help the time-wasting souls bound to an internet connection!

I do try and avoid Tv from rotting by brain, but the back issues of Top Gear are’nt going to watch themselves! BBC iplayer allows me all the comforts of sitting downstairs, upstairs!

Tho limited to only programmes made by the bbc, one can make regular trips back to catch up on missed shows, news and weather. As well as all the comedy and panorama type stuff.

Oh, and check out delia’s new show, i thought it was’nt too great.

First CW Contact

March 14, 2008

Woo, i finally made my first contact!!

Skimming around on 40m  yesterday afternoon, i heard SM5DYC calling CQ CQ CQ at about 10wpm. I tell you, i was shaking as i put the key down! But thankfully Ola was patient and allowed me to have a short contact with him.

I hope i get a QSL card!

Dvorak Keys

March 12, 2008

So the other Saturday night in the pub, with my deaf mate Fint, we were rambelimg on with the usual nerdy computer talk and i mentioned how i was learning to touch type, very slowly i must add!

So fint mentioned the Dvorak keyboard layout, as an alternative to qwerty. 10 days later and here i am with my brand new keyboard! It’s wicked! i hardly have to move my hands to type….. well worth 9 pounds from ebid.com. Go try it out for yourself!

Feed the head!

March 1, 2008

Feed the headJust found this beautiful and intreging web game/toy at Jayisgames , Feed the head is an almost minimal creation in just but a few colours.

There is no real aim or goal per say, but to just experiment and see the delightful results in sound, colour and texture. I personally also enjoyed that fact that it is not soely point and click, there is a lot of draging and placeing objects to get the desired effects.

Well worth ten minuets exploration to loose your imagination in!

At 00:56 this morning the UK was struck by it’s largest earthquake in nearly 25 years. Cool eh? I was still up and reading, and have to admit it scare me to death at the time, the shear fact i had no idea what was going on!

I live 100 miles from the epicentre which supposedly occurred just north of Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, but the noise and power was incredible. The quake measured 4.7 but has certainly been enough to awake the people in the UK that we are not immune to such phenomena.

If you felt the quake, wherever you may be, you can help out the British Geological Survey by compiling a quick survey to aid their research here.

Modified Toy Orchestra

February 26, 2008

Modified toy orchestra

Just wow,

As soon as i get my finances sorted I’ve got to order myself a copy of this here CD.

A group of five “Musicians” hailing from Birmingham, who have spend the last five years modifying and experimenting with discarded electronic children’s toys, for pure audio endeavour has got to be worth £10.99 from Amazon.com

The first track i heard was “This is the monkey”, and it had me bopping around for days! The shear mix of dirty Partyshank (see more later) beats and synth droning 8-bit vocal samples. For those unfamiliar which the term ‘Circuirbending’ this will be a great introduction, of the art of reverse engineering and ‘Bending’ of electronic equipment and toys.

Released on the WarmCircuit Label “Toygopop” sound varied and original but i’m sure that is expected when ‘musicians’ are behind the creation. Rather than effort i myself have tried! Preview tracks and videos from the album on the Myspace page.
